About volume units
Volume measures three-dimensional space. The litre is the everyday metric unit (one cubic decimetre); the cubic metre is the SI unit and equals 1,000 litres. Cooking uses cups, tablespoons and teaspoons, while the US gallon (3.785 litres) differs from the imperial gallon (4.546 litres) — this calculator uses US customary units.
Because volume scales with the cube of length, 1 m = 100 cm but 1 m³ = 1,000,000 cm³.
