Read the Drug Facts panel. In the United States, men’s 5% minoxidil foam is labeled once a day; women’s 5% foam has its own once-daily directions. Extra-strength 2% solution for men was historically twice daily. Those frequencies came from the trials that supported OTC switches, not from a TikTok “max absorption” window. The American Academy of Dermatology describes topical minoxidil as a standard androgenetic option when used as directed. Applying more often does not skip the 3–6 month wait for visible change. It can increase scalp redness, flaking, unwanted facial hair, and dizziness from vasodilation. If liquid runs onto the forehead, you did not earn a higher dose — you earned a smear. Oral minoxidil (off-label for hair in many countries; Loniten is a blood-pressure tablet) is a different molecule path with heart-rate and fluid-retention warnings on the tablet label. Do not stack extra topical millilitres on top of oral minoxidil unless the prescriber said so.
Missed a night? Use the next scheduled application. Do not “make up” with two cans. If twice-daily 2% is what you were sold, keep the two doses several hours apart and let the scalp dry.
