Dutasteride mesotherapy: what scalp injections actually are

Dutasteride is a dual 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor. Oral capsules are approved for hair loss in some countries (including Korea and Japan) and remain off-label for hair in others. Mesotherapy here means serial intradermal injections of a dutasteride-containing solution, sometimes mixed with vitamins, into thinning areas. Clinics sell it as more drug at the follicle and less in the blood. Published hair research on this route is limited, protocols differ, and compounding quality is not a global standard. It is not the same as an FDA-approved topical finasteride product, and it is not a substitute for a diagnosis. You still need to know whether the loss is androgenetic, areata, or something that should not be needled.

Risks split into needle problems and 5-ARI problems. Needles: pain, bruise, infection, shock shed, and a rash of appointments you will pay for. 5-ARI: dutasteride is teratogenic; people who can become pregnant must not handle leaked solution, and men in contact with a pregnancy need the same seriousness as with oral capsules. Sexual side-effects, mood change, and breast tenderness are reported with systemic dutasteride; mesotherapy does not magically delete that list just because the brochure says 'local.' Blood tests and a medication list still matter if you already take other hormones or have liver disease. Stacking oral dutasteride plus frequent injections is a clinician decision, not a loyalty punch card.
