Androgen

A group of hormones (including testosterone and DHT) responsible for 'male' characteristics, present in both sexes. In genetically sensitive people, androgens — chiefly DHT — drive the follicle miniaturisation behind pattern hair loss, which is why lowering or blocking them is the basis of the most effective treatments.
