Fine, short, lightly-pigmented 'peach fuzz' hair. In pattern loss, miniaturisation turns thick terminal hairs into vellus hairs, which is why thinning areas look sparse before they go fully bald. Treatment aims to convert vellus hairs back toward terminal.
