What side effects can dutasteride cause?

Because dutasteride blocks both type I and type II 5-alpha-reductase, DHT falls more than on finasteride for many people. The side-effect profile overlaps: decreased libido, erectile difficulty, ejaculation changes, and breast tenderness or enlargement can occur. These are not guaranteed and often improve if the drug is stopped, but lingering symptoms are reported and remain a counselling point. Some people report mood changes; causality is hard to prove at population level and still worth mentioning to a doctor. Blood donation rules can be stricter after dutasteride because of how long it lingers.

PSA concentrations fall, so tell whoever screens your prostate that you take it. It is approved for hair loss in some countries (including Korea and Japan) and used off-label for hair elsewhere; prostate enlargement is a separate labelled use at the same molecule.
