FUE and FUT both move DHT-resistant follicles from the donor zone to thinning areas. The difference is how the donor hair is taken, not a magic difference in the hairs themselves.
Follicular unit transplantation (FUT, or strip) removes a thin strip of scalp from the back, then dissects it into follicular units under a microscope. The trade-off is a linear donor scar, usually hidden by surrounding hair, and the ability to obtain many grafts in one session for some anatomies. Follicular unit excision (FUE) punches out individual units, leaving many tiny dot scars instead of one line. Hair can often be worn shorter. FUE can take longer, may transect more follicles if poorly done, and still has a finite donor supply — punching everywhere does not create extra hair. DHI and other branded pens are usually FUE with a different implanter, not a third biology.
Moved hairs keep the donor’s resistance to DHT, but native hair in the thinning zone can keep miniaturising, so most people still need medical therapy if they want to protect what was not transplanted. Shock loss of nearby hairs can happen with either method and is usually temporary. Choose a surgeon who will show unedited donor photos, explain graft counts honestly, and will not overharvest. Price races and ‘unlimited grafts’ packages are a quality warning, not a technique victory. This is surgery, not a shampoo. Get a diagnosis first: transplants do not treat scarring alopecia or active inflammatory disease. This is not medical advice.

Which looks more natural, FUE or FUT?
Naturalness comes from hairline design, graft angulation, and not packing the front with huge grafts — not from the acronym. A well-done strip and a well-done FUE can both look natural; a rushed mega-session of either can look wrong.
Is FUE always better because there is no scar?
FUE still scars — as many small dots. FUT leaves a line. Which bothers you depends on hairstyle, skin, and how the work is done. ‘No scar’ marketing is false.
