Thinning hair is not a reason to stop washing. It is a reason to be kinder to wet shafts and honest about whether you have scalp disease as well as pattern loss.
Sebum, sweat, and product pile on the scalp whether you are balding or not. Infrequent washing can worsen seborrheic flakes and itch, which then look like ‘more loss.’ Use lukewarm water, pads of the fingers, and a shampoo you will actually rinse out of the scalp, not only the ends. Condition lengths if they tangle; heavy conditioner on a sparse crown can make hair look flatter. Detangle from the ends up with a wide tooth comb when wet, not a tight brush yanked from the roots.
If you use topical minoxidil, follow the product: many people apply to a dry scalp so the dose is not diluted. Foam versus liquid is a comfort choice if you get irritation. Medicated ketoconazole two or three times a week can sit in the rotation if a clinician agrees you have yeast-related scale. Daily aggressive ‘scalp scrubs’ with sharp tools can injure skin. Pregnancy: stick to bland wash unless a clinician recommends a medicated shampoo. This is not medical advice. Pain, pus, or sudden patches are not a shampoo problem.

Does washing every day make hair fall out more?
You will see hairs that were already loose. Daily gentle washing does not cause androgenetic alopecia. Skipping washes to ‘save oil’ often backfires with itch and scale.
Should I use cold water to close cuticles?
A cooler rinse is optional comfort. It will not reverse miniaturisation. Temperature tricks are not a substitute for proven therapy.
