Can I swim if I use minoxidil?

💡 Resposta rápida

A green tinge and straw texture after laps is copper and chlorine on keratin, not proof that minoxidil “washed out your DHT block.” Minoxidil is not a DHT blocker.

Termos-chaveMinoxidil

Swimming-pool chemistry oxidises and dries the hair shaft. That is a cosmetic and breakage problem. Topical minoxidil’s job is the follicle on the scalp, labelled for dry application and leave-on time. If you swim, rinse the scalp, dry it, then apply at the next labelled time — twice daily for many 2% solutions, once daily for many foams, according to the carton you actually bought. The American Academy of Dermatology still treats minoxidil as an on-label option for pattern loss when used as directed. This page is not a pool-chemistry lab and not medical advice.

Do not apply minoxidil immediately before diving so it runs into the eyes in chlorinated water. Do not mix leftover minoxidil into a swim cap. Goggles protect eyes; they do not replace rinsing. If you already have a page on this site about chlorine and hair loss, this one is specifically about stacking with minoxidil technique.

Ear pain, green hair that will not rinse, or eye injury after chemical exposure needs appropriate care, not a new foam brand. This is not medical advice.

Perguntas frequentes

Does chlorine cancel minoxidil?

Chlorine does not chemically “turn off” minoxidil in a labelled monograph sense. It does wreck shafts and can rinse product off. Re-apply on a dry scalp per the carton.

Salt water the same?

Salt dries too. Same logic: rinse, dry, labelled application. Not a new indication.

Should I skip the morning dose on swim days?

Ask your clinician. This page does not invent a skip-day protocol. Missing doses reduces the labelled experiment.

Clarifying shampoo every day?

Daily harsh clarifiers increase breakage. Occasional chelating wash is a salon conversation, not a minoxidil substitute.
