A nutrient required in micrograms is not a bigger-is-better hair drug. The American Academy of Dermatology does not list selenium pills as androgenetic therapy.
Selenium is part of antioxidant enzymes. True deficiency is uncommon on mixed diets in many high-income countries and can appear with some restricted intakes or certain medical conditions — that workup belongs with a clinician, not a hair influencer. Supplement megadoses and “hair, skin, nails” stacks sometimes contain selenium on top of a multivitamin. Selenosis — toxicity — can include garlic-breath odour, nail changes, and hair shedding. Outbreaks have been tied to misformulated products historically. Brazil nuts are naturally high in selenium; a handful every day is not a harmless habit for everyone.
Pattern baldness is DHT-sensitive miniaturization. Selenium will not replace finasteride or minoxidil. Thyroid disease (which can shed hair) and selenium have a narrow clinical relationship in thyroidology — that is not a license to self-dose for a receding temple. This is not medical advice. Do not add a second selenium bottle because a shop labeled it “keratin support.”
If a lab already shows you are replete, more is not a thicker density photo. Poison-control and FDA supplement-warning pages exist because “natural” is not a dose. Ask before combining selenium with other thyroid-directed products.

Perguntas frequentes
Should I take selenium for a receding hairline?
Not as pattern therapy. Treat androgenetic loss with proven options after a diagnosis. Selenium is a nutrition topic.
Can too much selenium make hair fall?
Yes. Selenosis can include hair loss. More is not safer. Stop megadoses and call a clinician if you overdid it.
Are Brazil nuts a hair food?
They are selenium-rich. Daily handfuls can overshoot. They are not a minoxidil substitute.
Is selenium in my multivitamin a problem?
Typical RDA-range amounts in one multi are not the same as stacked hair gummies plus nuts plus drops. Add up labels. Ask a pharmacist if the sum is high.
