Fibers are makeup for the scalp. Used well they are convincing under indoor light. They are not a treatment and they fail in heavy rain and swimming.
Hair building fibers are usually coloured keratin or cellulose particles that electrostatically cling to shafts, making each hair look thicker and the scalp darker. Sprays and creams do a similar job with pigment. They need some existing hair to grab; a fully bald scalp will not hold a forest. Matching shade matters. Static and humidity can clump product. Hats and helmets can smear it onto the band.
If you also use topical minoxidil, let the medicine dry fully before fibers so you are not rubbing active drug off or creating a paste. Fibers do not interact with finasteride. They will not stop DHT. For weddings and video calls they can be a legitimate confidence tool while medical therapy has months to work. Do not inhale clouds of powder; apply away from the eyes. They sit on the shaft and wash out with shampoo. They are not a known cause of androgenetic alopecia. A filthy, unwashed scalp can irritate, which is a hygiene issue, not proof that fibers bald you.
Can I go swimming with hair fibers in?
Water and rubbing usually remove them. Plan a receding hairline strategy that does not depend on powder in the pool, and rinse chlorine afterward for the real hair you still have.
