Asian hair loss

Last updated: 2026-06-14

The treatments are the same worldwide, but a few things differ for Asian hair. Asian scalps tend to have lower follicular density and thicker individual hairs, which affects transplant graft planning and how density 'reads'. Pattern loss in Asian men often progresses a little later and more slowly on average, and the hairline recedes differently. Minoxidil and finasteride are first-line; dutasteride is specifically approved for hair loss in Korea and Japan. For transplants, surgeon experience with straight, thick Asian hair matters.
