Speed–Accuracy Tradeoff

On timed tasks you can rush and miss or slow down and hit. Cognitive psychology treats that tradeoff as a strategy, not a moral failing. Reporting only milliseconds without errors hides the trade; reporting only hits hides the rush.

Practice games:↔️ Flanker Lite — Center Arrow🔀 Task-Switch Lite — Letter/Number Rule⚡ Reaction Time Test

What is the tradeoff?

In many choice-RT tasks, faster responses tend to be less accurate, and vice versa, until you hit a skill ceiling. Instructions (“be fast but accurate”) try to pin a policy.

Why show hits and ms together?

Flanker-lite reports both so a reckless sprint is visible. A single number is easier to overinterpret as IQ.

Is slower always smarter?

No. Deliberate slowness can be caution or confusion. Processing-speed indexes on clinical batteries are standardized; this site’s ms are not.

Switching and SAT?

Task-switch-lite adds a rule change, which often slows people. That cost is not a Full Scale IQ.

Can I train the tradeoff away?

You can get more consistent on a familiar toy. That is not proof of a new intelligence.

How should I practice here?

Run flanker-lite or reaction-time twice with different caution. Compare hits and ms. Still practice only.

Test–Retest Reliability

If you take a test twice, the number often moves. Psychometrics calls the stable part reliability and the bouncing part error, practice, mood, sleep, or a different form. A web game score is especially noisy.

What Is a Standard Score?

Raw scores (items correct, milliseconds) are not comparable across ages or tests. A standard score rescales them so that, in a reference sample, the mean and spread are fixed. This site does not convert game hits into that scale.

IQ and Job Performance

Industrial-organizational research often finds that general mental ability predicts job performance better in more complex roles, with validity coefficients that are real but far from 1.0. This article is descriptive. It is not a recommendation to choose or reject a career from a web score.

Nutrition and Cognition

Brains run on ordinary metabolism. Skipping meals, dehydration, and extreme restriction can make attention feel worse in the short run. That is not the same as a supplement raising IQ, and this site does not sell or endorse pills.

Heat and Test Scores

Hot, poorly ventilated rooms make many people slower and more irritable. Research on ambient temperature and exam or cognitive-task performance is mixed but often points to discomfort and attention costs — not a rewritten intelligence.
