Hair system vs transplant: bonded hair versus living grafts

💡 まず結論

Systems buy density on a schedule. Transplants buy a limited number of living hairs. Mixing them over a decade is common and not a moral failure.

A modern hair system (sometimes called a toupee, lace unit, or 'non-surgical transplant' in ads) is a base — lace, skin-like polyurethane, or a hybrid — with human or synthetic hair, attached by adhesive, tape, or clips. You get a hairline this week. You also get a maintenance calendar: cleanup, rebond, sweat and swim rules, and replacement when the base wears. Some units look excellent; cheap ones look like a hat. A transplant is surgery. It spends donor from the back and sides. Those follicles can grow in the new site, but they do not increase the total hair you were born with, and remaining native hair can still miniaturize.

Choose a system when you need coverage now, when donor is too weak for the goal, when the diagnosis is unstable (active areata, chemo, scarring still marching), or when you refuse a scar and a year of waiting. Choose a transplant when a qualified surgeon maps a stable androgenetic pattern, you accept a finite donor, and you will still treat the native hair. 'Non-surgical transplant' advertising that glues a system and calls it surgery is a word game. Ask how the unit is removed, what solvent they use, and whether daily traction will worsen the edge — traction alopecia around a badly fitted system is a real way to lose the hair you still have.

This is not medical advice. Price a year of servicing against a honest graft quote, including flights if you travel. If you already wear a system, show the scalp to a dermatologist before you book FUE so infection and traction damage are in the chart. Do not let a fitter cancel your finasteride, and do not let a surgeon shame a system that is keeping you employed. Sudden scalp pain, chemical burns from adhesive, or a necrotic punch site need care, not another product upsell.

よくある質問

Can I transplant and still wear a system while it grows?

Sometimes, with a surgeon who knows how you attach the unit so grafts are not ripped at week two. It is a coordination problem, not a default yes.

Is a system cheaper than surgery over ten years?

High-end units plus servicing can rival or exceed one surgery. Cheap units cost less and look like it. Do the arithmetic for your city.

Will bonding glue stop my remaining hair from thinning?

No. Adhesive is not minoxidil. Poor glue habits can inflame or pull hair. Treat pattern loss separately if that is the diagnosis.
