Does vitamin D help hair growth?

💡 Resposta rápida

Correct a documented vitamin D deficiency as part of general health and a shedding work-up. Do not expect a bottle of D3 to replace minoxidil or a JAK inhibitor.

Vitamin D receptors exist in hair follicles, and observational studies often find lower 25-hydroxyvitamin D in people with alopecia areata or telogen effluvium than in controls. Association is not proof that pills will reverse Norwood recession. Guidelines for supplementing vitamin D exist for bone and general health; they are not hair-transplant substitutes. Testing and dosing belong with a clinician because vitamin D is fat-soluble and excess can raise calcium to dangerous levels.

If your level is low, food, sensible sun, and replacement doses your doctor chooses are the boring correct steps. If your level is already adequate, more D will not outrun genetics. Alopecia areata still needs a proper diagnosis and, in severe cases, medicines such as JAK inhibitors that are actually approved for that disease. Pattern loss still needs the usual evidence-based options. This is not medical advice. Kidney stones, confusion, or very high calcium after megadosing need urgent care.

Perguntas frequentes

What vitamin D level should I hit for hair?

Use the range your lab and clinician use for health, not a hair-forum target. There is no widely accepted hair-only cut-off that justifies unsupervised megadoses.

Can vitamin D cure alopecia areata?

No. Patchy autoimmune hair loss may coexist with low D, but treatment of AA is not a vitamin. Severe AA has specific approved drugs; discuss those with a dermatologist.
