Ketoconazole shampoo can help hair look and feel better when dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis is inflaming the scalp. It is not a proven replacement for FDA-approved pattern-loss drugs.
Ketoconazole is an antifungal. In shampoos it reduces Malassezia yeast and the redness, grease, and scale of seborrheic dermatitis — a condition the American Academy of Dermatology discusses as a common, treatable scalp problem.
