Combined oral contraceptives change the hormonal environment that hair cycles live in. When that environment stops, some people notice more shed two to three months later — classic telogen timing, similar to postpartum shedding in spirit if not in obstetrics. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and dermatology references discuss contraceptive counselling as a clinician visit, not a hair-loss checkout. Anti-androgenic progestins are sometimes chosen partly for skin; stopping them is not a DHT “rebound calculator” you should invent at home. This page is not medical advice.
If you stopped because of clot risk, migraine with aura, or age-and-smoking rules, do not restart a combined pill to save hair without the prescriber. Progestin-only methods have different labels. Minoxidil on-label is still a dry-scalp leave-on if a dermatologist agrees it belongs. Do not crush finasteride. Photograph the part; do not weigh hair in the drain.

Should I start finasteride the week I stop the pill?
No automatic start. Finasteride is labelled for men with androgenetic alopecia in the U.S. 1 mg story. Ask a clinician; pregnancy planning matters.
Is spironolactone a swap?
Spironolactone is a prescription with its own potassium and pregnancy issues. Not an OTC hair vitamin.
Does this mean I have AGA?
Not by itself. Family pattern plus exam answers that. A shed after stopping the pill can be telogen, AGA, or both.
