FAQ

What does an IQ percentile actually mean?
An IQ percentile tells you the share of people you scored higher than, not a test percentage. An IQ at the 84th percentile means you scored above about 84% of people, and the median score of 100 sits at the 50th percentile. Percentile is the most honest way to read an IQ because it is the same across every properly normed test.
How rare is an IQ of 130?
An IQ of 130 puts you in the top 2%, roughly 1 in 44 people. That is the 98th percentile on a standard SD-15 scale, the same threshold Mensa uses for membership. Higher scores get rare fast: 145 is about 1 in 750.
Why does changing the SD from 15 to 16 change my IQ number?
Changing the standard deviation rescales the number but not your actual standing. The same top-2% ability is written as 130 on an SD-15 test and 132 on an SD-16 test, because each scale stretches differently around the mean of 100. The percentile stays the same, which is why it is the figure worth comparing.
